One of the rarest of Remington’s 22 bronze sculptures, Buffalo Signal was originally created as a personal gift, with the understanding that only a single cast would be made. The composition captures a Native American warrior seated triumphantly atop his horse, chin lifted with quiet defiance and an unwavering, intense gaze.
Raised high above him, the hide of a slain buffalo signals victory. Beneath him, his horse responds in shared triumph—front hoof and hind leg lifted in subtle recognition of the moment. The scene is powerful yet restrained, embodying pride, strength, and cultural symbolism in a single commanding silhouette.
The Craftsmanship
This handmade bronze reproduction is cast using the traditional lost-wax process, a time-honored method that preserves every intricate detail of the original 1902 design. From the texture of the buffalo hide to the musculature of the horse and the poised posture of the rider, each element is carefully defined and individually finished.
Crafted from solid bronze, the sculpture features a rich, hand-applied patina that produces natural variations in tone and depth. No two pieces are exactly alike.
