The Scalp, originally copyrighted on December 8, 1898 under the title The Triumph, stands as Remington’s fourth bronze and his first sculptural depiction of a Native American subject. The composition portrays a Sioux war chief in a proud and victorious stance, mounted atop a powerful horse brought to a dramatic halt mid-stride. The warrior raises his prize after battle, embodying strength, resilience, and commanding presence.
